Late April:

I led Richard and Teresa Ware from GA BotSoc on a visit to see the Glade Spurge.
I've been told that this site is the only known occurrence of this species in Georgia.
While I had seen it here in prior years, I had never caught it in bloom...

May 17:

I wanted to check on the spring blooms, prior to a BotSoc field trip the following week...

Euphorbia
The Glade Spurge (Euphorbia purpurea) was going to seed...

Twayblade-Orchid
Lily-leaved Twayblades (Liparis liliifolia) were just putting out buds.
None of the other orchid species I saw had buds yet, much less be close to blooming...

Beardtongue
Eastern Gray Beardtongue (Penstemon canescens) with whitish flowers.

Beardtongue
Eastern Gray Beardtongue with the pink flowers that are more prevalent at this site.

Goats_Rue
Goat's Rue (Tephrosia virginiana) and a bug.

Spiranthes_cernua
Round-leaved Sundew   (Drosera rotundifolia)

Columbo
American Columbo (Frasera caroliniensis)
These plants persist as a large rosette of basal leaves for 5-20 years before finally
bolting as a large flowering plant 3-8 feet tall for a single season, then dying.

Columbo
I love the unusual flowers on this plant, with the fringed
nectar pads that occur in the middle of each corolla lobe.

May 25:

I led a group from the GA Botanical Society to some of my favorite late spring - early
summer spots at the Seeps.   This was the second stop on the field trip and it was a
bit hot out in the open sun with the record-breaking heat wave we were having.   We
were about a week early for some of the best blooming, but still saw some good stuff.

May 29:

I made a return visit four days later, to look for Liparis loeselii, the Widelipped
Twayblade orchid that we saw last year, but didn't see on the BotSoc field trip.
I didn't see any again, but took a few more pics while I was there...
