The Pool Furnace, erected in 1855 on Stamp Creek, was owned by B.G. Pool and J.W. Lewis.   A Bloomary
Forge built in 1850 was located nearby, and remains of foundations-cellars can still be seen in the vicinity.
Note that all of the furnaces in the area employed water power to operate their bellows-blown air systems.

Pool_Furnace
One of this furnace's arches has collapsed.

Crucible
The furnace stack is visible behind the broken outer wall structure.

Pool_Furnace
The other arch is in relatively good shape.   I'm guessing that this
is the tuyere arch, although no piping was visible to confirm that.

Black_Racer
When we first approached the furnace, E was startled by this black racer!
But it was more scared than her, finding this crevice to keep an eye on us.

From_inside_Arch
Looking out from inside the arch.

Crucible_base_thru_arch
Looking through the "good" arch at the bosh base.

Interior
Broken interior of furnace.

Crucible_view
View up from base, broken bosh in center.

Furnace-left-upper
West side of furnace from mid-slope.

Trees_in_ruins
Trees growing out of the furnace.   At this point, the tree roots
are doing more structural damage than any other cause...

Front_Furnace
The snake was lying just behind where E is standing in this pic.   I was in front of her
approaching the furnace and probably stepped right over it, planning my next photo...

Up_chimney
Looking up the furnace stack - loading hole.

Chimney_transition
Stack-chimney transition from stone to brick.

Trees_out_of_wall
Looking up - trees growing out of wall
Looks like a Mayan ruin in Central America...

Honeysuckle
Honeysuckle on wall

Right_upper_view
From right side, up slope...

Sycamore
Nice camouflage on this sycamore!

Collapsed_wall
Section of collapsed wall from another structure up hill from the furnace.

Daffodils
Daffodils outside remains of other structure

Upper_rear_view
View from slope behind furnace. A charging ramp would have
led from the lip of the slope to the top of the furnace.

Broken_brick
Broken, moss-covered brick

Furnace-front
The last time that Pool Furnace was in blast was 1874.
