1 - Falls on Mt. Airy Creek, Union Co.
I went by these falls while searching for a couple of old homesites. There is a series of falls and cascades in a steep gorge here. The photos are mostly of the lower falls. There had been a recent landslide at the upper falls and I needed a rope to make sure I would be able to climb back up the steep slope.

It's too bad this huge tree has fallen across the base.

The largest waterfall was in the upper gorge of the creek. A slide had taken out the best route to the base, and I needed a rope to slide down the steep walls of the gorge and be able to climb back out. Since my rope was in my truck, I had to shoot this view through the rhododendron from the old logging road high above the falls. I also shot a video which illustrates this waterfall much better, but didn't include it here.

2 - Mossy Cove Branch Falls, Towns Co.
After exploring a nearby Mica mine, I decided to climb down and photograph these nearby falls. There are two separate waterfalls here, but after seeing all the deadfall at the lower falls and all the dead trees overhanging the creek above it, I didn't bother scrambling over and down to the upper falls.
