| After our weekly Blue Uke session, I stopped by one of my favorite early spring botanizing destinations to get a start on a new year of blooms. |

| Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) flower |

| Dropped stamens of Goldenseal flower I soon discovered a phenomena that was going to be a recurrent theme throughout the 2026 botanical year: Almost everything bloomed 10 days - 2 weeks early this year! |

| I was only able to find a few plants that still had good blooms. |
|
 |
|
| Most had already dropped their stamens, or were in the process of doing so. |
|
 |
|
| Southern Adder's Tongue (Ophioglossum vulgatum) These tiny plants were an exception, as they were just coming into bud. I didn't see any with fully developed flowers. |

| Showy Orchis (Galearis spectabilis) Some of these plants were just emerging, but others were already in full bloom. |

| This has always been one of my best spots to find early specimens of this orchid blooming. |

| Flame Azalea (Rhododendron calendulaceum) It was early for these, and this was the only plant I saw that was starting to flower. |

| Pink Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium acaule) On my way out, I checked a spot where I knew these grew, but wasn't expecting to see any flowers so early. |
|
 |
