1 - Old Homesite TO35 - Off East Gumlog Creek, Towns County, GA
December, 2025

I had marked this home location from the old map onto my GPS app, but after
Sheldon and I did our Tarkiln Cove trek, we were too worn out to go up there.
I went in about a week later to see if I could find the site.

Possible_Chimney
Crossing the creek, I almost immediately came across a long pile of rocks that looked
like an old chimney that had collapsed lengthwise but maintained its shape.
If so, it had been laying there for a long time...

Chimney1
Continuing past the creek, I came across a homesite.
This home once had a pair of chimneys, with both now collapsed.
This is chimney 1.

From another angle...
The second chimney, not much more than a pile of rocks, can be seen in the rear.

An old tree grew up through the middle of the second collapsed chimney.

Roadside_wall
An old road near the homesite is barely recognizable,
except for where it is bordered by this old rock wall.

2 - Old Homesite FA31 - Tributary of Upper Mill Creek, Fannin County, GA
December, 2025

Sheldon's friend Bobby had told us about this place a couple of years ago.   Sheldon had looked for it once but hadn't gone far enough.   It was across the creek from what we thought was the most likely spot for a homesite.

The chimney had collapsed forward, into what would have been the home's interior.

Rock_in_tree
On our way out, by the creek, we came across this rock sticking out of a tree trunk!

3 - Old Homesite UN56 -Long Creek, Union County, GA
December, 2025

After finding the previous chimney, we revisited Long Creek.   We had found two chimneys along the upper section of this creek a few years ago.   But despite two later searches, we'd failed to find another one that Bobby said was upstream.   Sheldon had later located it with another group of friends, but I hadn't seen it yet.

The other homesites we found along this creek
are in Fannin Co., but this one is in Union Co.

From what Bobby had told Sheldon, this chimney was
considerably more intact when he had last encountered it.

You can see that the chimney stack fell directly backwards.

Tree_burls
On our way back, we checked out some LIDAR indications that looked like
a series of pits.   All we found was a few boulders, but I did see this interesting
big tree with multiple burls at its base, growing alongside an old logging road.
