Mid April 2019:

Swamp_Pinks
The Swamp Pinks were in fine form this year

The Trout Lilies were also blooming quite well

Actias_luna

I spotted a beautiful Luna Moth   (Actias Luna)

Five days later, I returned to check on another area:

Painted_Trillium
I was hoping to see Painted Trilliums (Trillium undulatum), but only found one blooming.


Catesby_Trillium
Likewise, Catesby's Trillium (Trillium catesbaei) was also just starting to bloom here.



I returned four days later to check the progress:

Ladys_Slipper
While looking for more Painted Trilliums, I came across a stand of Lady's Slippers

Pink Lady's Slippers   (Cypripedium acaule)

I found a few more Painted Trilliums in bloom.


Wild_Geranium
Wild Geranium   (Geranium maculatum)


Trillium_amicalola
Amicalola Trilliums (T. amicalola) were slow to bloom as usual.
Like last April, I only found one blooming.   They don't typically open here until May,



Phacelia
Appalachian Phacelia   (Phacelia dubia)
Very uncommon in these parts.   I had heard that there might be some here, but had looked in the wrong area previously.




Mid June:

Monotropa_uniflora
First Indian Pipes (Monotropa uniflora) of the year


Asclepias_exaltata
Poke Milkweed (Asclepias exaltata), in bud


Silene_virginica
Fire Pink   (Silene virginica)
