Prior to a visit to Buck Creek, I stopped by Riley Cove
to see what late summer blooms were coming along.
After some recent rains, I also saw many assorted fungi.

Garter_Snake
This Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) greeted me upon my arrival.

Bolete
A yellow Bolete

Tipularia
Cranefly Orchids   (Tipularia discolor)
are pretty much gone around our home, but
they were still looking pretty good here.

Hydnellum
Maybe one of the Tooth mushrooms (Hydnellum sp.)?

Mushroom
Hydnellum species?

Clavarioid_Fungi
One of many Clavarioid-type fungi that I saw;
I didn't try to identify them all.

Monkshood
Unidentified mushrooms.

Southern Monkshood (Aconitum uncinatum)
was just coming into bloom.

Monkshood
I saw lots of buds, but only a few fully opened flowers.

was pretty much done for the year.   Only a few
plants had more than 1-2 petals remaining.

Glade Spurge (Euphorbia purpurea)
is only found at one location in Georgia, but gets slightly
more abundant as one moves up the Appalachian range.

Green Wood Orchid, aka Club-spur Orchid (Platanthera clavellata)
Most I saw were already going to seed.

P_clavellata
But this one did still have flowers remaining.

was on its way out and looking pretty raggedy here.
