When I photographed the October 2024 aurora borealis, I'd seen a stand of Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) along the lake shore.   I later recalled that I had seen them at several other places around Lake Chatuge.   They are not native to this part of Georgia, and were likely originally planted by the TVA.   They are a deciduous conifer, and grow in the water when the lake is at summer pool.

I had wanted to photograph them in 2024 when the needles changed color, but forgot all about it until it was too late.   My timing was better this year, although with the dull overcast skies, my photos weren't the most vibrant.   I'll need to try again with better lighting.

Some of the Cypress trees were still green, others were nicely
colored, and some had already dropped their needles.

The trees here grow along the edge of a cove,
although they have wet feet in the summer.

There was a lot of variation in color progress even on individual trees.

A few days later, I was up on Tuni Gap Rd. photographing more fall foliage.   On my way home, I re-
visited the Bald Cypress, since the late afternoon sun was lighting the trees like they were on fire.
