Fish Rearing Ponds - Associated Structures Towns County, Georgia Late October 2025 |

| Back in early 2020, when I found the old overgrown fish raising ponds in the upper Hiwassee watershed, I never saw any sign of the structures that were reported to be part of the operation. In 2024, I'd heard of someone seeing stone ruins in the general area. On a late October afternoon I went looking for the ruins, despite the trees still being covered with leaves and restricting my views. It took a while, and I was about to give up, when I finally found the mortared-stone foundations of two structures, each about 20 ft. x 34 ft. They were further from the ponds than I expected, which is why it took longer than planned to come across them. |

| As with my album of the ponds, I'll start with a photo of the old Unicoi Turnpike, which leads directly into the pond area. |

| We'll begin with the upper structure... This is the south side foundation wall, at the SW corner. |

| The remains of the west side. This wall, on the lower end of the gradual slope that the building sat on, would have been the tallest foundation section, but it is collapsed. Perhaps from when the building was moved. All of the other walls are in much better condition. |

| The east wall Being on the upslope end of the structure, the wall here is relatively low. |

| And we're back to the south wall... |
|
| Structure 2 is just below the first foundation, on a flatter section of land. I only took a few photos of it, since the foundation is much lower, and parts of it are covered by rhododendron vegetation. |
