2026 UPDATE: In 2023, the owners of this tract decided not to renew GA DNR's lease, and the area was
planned and approved as a "development district", allowing commercial, industrial, residential, and
mining development. Fortunately, in September 2026, following several years of behind-the- scenes
negotiations, DA DNR announced an acquisition agreement to purchase the core 14,640-acre landscape.
