~ Apalachia - McFarland Area ~
Cherokee National Forest, Polk Co., TN
This abandoned area in eastern TN has loads of history - from the early settlers, to
the building of the railroad along the Hiwassee River in 1890, to TVA's construction
and operation of the Apalachia dam, tunnel, and power generation plant in the early
1940s. The area is extremely rugged and a person could spend months exploring it.
