March - My third day traversing the BRRR:

I went out and explored a couple more sections of the old railroad bed...

Culvert_A_north
Construction of the eastern end of RR bed in Rabun Co. stopped just before reaching the Chattooga River.
This large stone culvert is located at the base of the final section of raised berm built on that end.

Looking through the culvert...

Culvert_A_south
Opposite end of the same culvert

Culvert_top
Top of the culvert.
The adjacent raised fill / berm would have continued over this culvert if construction hadn't stopped.

RR_berm
This was as far as the RR bed construction went on the eastern end.   The raised berm
drops off sharply at upper left; the previously pictured culvert is just below that point.

RR_berm
Looking back in opposite direction (west) along top of raised fill / berm.

Culvert_B_north
Nearby is another culvert, somewhat silted up.
I never found the opening at the other end...

A mile or so away, I explored another section of the old RR bed...

RR_cut
Typical "cut" area of the railroad bed.

RR_berm
Typical "raised fill" section of the RR bed (on left).

Culvert_C
Another culvert...
Maybe the flow of the creek has changed over 150 years, but the culvert wasn't quite lined up with the water course.

Culvert_C
Same culvert, with a more head-on view...

RR_cut
Another example of one of the railroad cuts, over 160 years old...

Pinnacle_culvert
Early stages of another culvert
Most of the RR bed that can be seen is out in the boonies, but this section is in a residential area close to town (Clayton).   A section
of the creek bed here is lined with the same large stone blocks, but the culvert never reached the point of being topped or covered.
Sections of the railroad cut can still be seen in the neighborhood.

Along the way...

Other sites seen while out exploring the route of the old railroad.

Library_Jeep
In a fairly remote spot, I came across a Little Library and an old Willys Jeep, decked out in St. Patty's Day decor.

Dicks_Crk_Falls
Being fairly close, I walked the Bartram Trail down to Dick's Creek Falls.
